This is a true story about a lost dog
and the tow truck driver who found him;
My name is Ken:
Driver #17
AFM
One day when I was towing a car to Barrie Ontario, I turned down this gravel road way out in the middle of nowhere. It was raining and the weather was not very good for anyone to be wondering around in. As I turned down the road this beautiful looking husky dog came running along beside me. Now I if there was a house nearby I would have thought that it belonged there, but there wasn't., So I stopped and opened my window, he came right over and started licking me.
"Do you think that with all this awful rain that he was asking me to let him in?"
"I think he was".
So I let him in, and boy was he ever happy, licking and thanking me and wow I just couldn't get him to settle down. When he did I drove to where I had to deliver the car. After doing so I asked the people there if they new where the local animal control center was. They said that it wasn't to far away, so I took the dog there. Now Me and this dog who I'm gonna call "Buddy" we went for a little drive and all along the way I kept stopping and asking people as they drove by if they new the dog or if he belonged anywhere, but nobody new him.
So buddy and I went on, and we stopped and had a bite to eat. I had a hamburger and fries and Buddy had the same hold the bun , hold the fries, and boy did he ever like that hamburger patty. He even wanted to eat mine. After we were done I took him back into my tow truck and we went on our way to the animal control center. After our great lunch Buddy had a little nap on my seat with his head resting on my lap, I think that his tummy is full and he's starting to feel allot dryer now. Boy we sure are becoming good friends but I'm sure that some nice little boy or girl misses him somewhere and I would really like to make sure that he finds his real home.
We soon arrived at the animal control location and I went inside to see the keeper there while buddy waited in the tow truck. The lady inside was cleaning cages and there was all kinds of animals with dogs barking loudly and cats meowing, and I even think I heard a goat out side. So I told the lady about this beautiful dog that I found and how he was all wet and running around loose near a major highway, I had explained that I felt sorry for him and that I was concerned that he might get hurt. She understood, so off we went to the tow truck to get Buddy.
We got Buddy and we took him inside, He was really happy and friendly and he was really curious about all the other animals. The lady got this scanner wand and she said that it would scan him to see if there was a Micro Chip in him. When I asked her what she meant she told me that some animals now have Micro Chips inserted under their skin so that if they get lost and somebody finds them, they can be identified. This micro Chip has detailed information stored in it like a tiny computer and when the scanner detects it, the information is downloaded into their computer and can be read by the Pound Keeper. Then we can find out who owns him and return him to their owners. Wow! That's so cool. Buddy didn't have the chip, but the pound keeper said that somebody must own him and she said that she would keep him there until somebody claims him. I was OK with that but I told her that if know-body claims him then please call me and I'll come all the way back out there and adopt him. She said that she would., So buddy and I said good bye and I went on my way home.
You know I thought about buddy all the way home, and what a great friend that he had become to me in such a short time. I worried about his real owners coming to get him for about a week or so, and then I finally called up there and asked the pound keepers if he had been claimed and they said that he was, That a couple with a young boy had come in and when buddy who's real name was Wolf, was so happy to see the little boy that he almost knocked him down and licked his whole face. The owners paid to have one of those chips put in so that they could find him easier the next time he gets lost. I'm sort'a sad that I didn't get to keep him but I'm really glad that him and that little boy are back together again. I'm hoping that he'll remember me and the great friends that we became.
That's my story about "a tow truck buddy".
